  • Sorry, been really busy...Pie Update

As the title says the day after I got back from the Pie Championships I took a Private duty job nursing with 24 hour shifts which is taking up alot of my time. I hadn't realized that I hadn't posted an update.

I was a really cool drive, America is really an amazing place with some really cool people and some real a$$holes!! I got to Flordia the day before at 3 in the afternoon and slept until about 9 that night. I had everything planned out, when to start cooking etc all my stuff laid and I was ready to go. I got one pie made and in the frig, the next one was in the oven....yeah I'm on fire everything is rolling along right on schedule until...... while making the third and last pie the double boiler shifted and went all over the floor the oven and me! Hot milk and chocolate all over the place I even took a video of the mess if I can figure out how to post it I will. Anyway in the process of cleaning up the mess on the oven door I hit the thermostat and jacked up the pie that was in the oven to about ohhhhhhhh 500 So I totally burned that pie and the other one was on the floor and it was 4 in the morning and I had to have my pies in by 9.

So I lost time having to go to the store to get more ingredients and re cook those two pies because I was freekin determined that I had driven 1200 miles was sleep deprived and by golly I was entering those pies! I got them made and had to be there by 9 a.m. at 5 minutes till 9 I was still 5 blocks away so called the hotel where it was told them what was up when I got there luckily there was someone waiting and helped me run the pies in literally just in the nick of time we set them on the table and some said is there (name inserted here) here, I raised my hand breathed a sigh of relief and ran out the door.

We had a brunch and I got to meet some very nice people even several of the food network stars, got to be friends with one and had brunch the next day at his house. I gotta tell you though no one told me those little old ladies were serious about this. Most of those ladies made between 12 and 15pies. I think that's how you even out the odds with so many catagories. My pies stood about 1/2 inch to and inch high theirs were about ohhhhh 5 inches high! They meant businsess. So I didn't win but man was it a great experience and at the end after it was over you got to go pick up your pie plates and see what your competition looked like. I don't think I've seen so many beautiful pies in one place in all my life.

I had a great time, loved driving across the country by myself with the radio and the sunroof, was really cool. Met some great people, got to meet some of my inspiratons from food network and have brunch with food network people made some contacts. So all in all a good time and good experience and by golly next year I know just exactly how it's to be done so I'll be making 15 pies

The picture of the brunch table is all food that all the pie makers made to bring. It was some of the best stuff I've ever eaten! There is just nothing like homemade.

Thanks, good to be back. This picture is with my heros. John Michael Lerma and Valarie Enters. Both are on the food network and have done the challanges and she won the championship about 3 years ago. They are some of the people who've inspired me to do this so it was amazing to actually be there with someone who made it.

The group photo on the couch are all the piemakers and the other group photo are the professionals who appear on food network.
