It has recently occurred to me that perhaps Russia is not so barbaric as some might say. Indeed, throughout history it has been teeming with musical talent and brilliant composers. Anyway, instead of rambling on about various composers I'd like to simply post some milestones in the history of Russian music and let the music speak for itself
1842: Mikhail Glinka - Ruslan and Ludmila
1900: Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov - Flight of the Bumblebee
1935: Sergei Prokofiev - Romeo and Juliet
1944: Sergey Mikhalkov - USSR Anthem
2002: t.A.T.u. - Malchik Gay
(To be honest, I suspect the economical situation forced them to make some adjustments to the culture slider after the breakup of the USSR)
