Sorry, no. Majority black communities mainly exist because those living in them cannot afford to leave them.

Is pretty much all I need.

You're living in a community which is a prime example of urban decay and black poverty, and your response is to ignore it and continue the same failed policies that made it that way. Great job.
Are you ****ing retarded? The failed policies that made it that way are PRECISELY THE ONES being advocated by the OP. Ghettoization into low-income, almost wholly black projects, the encouragement of black-owned businesses and self-reliance in the ghettoes, etc.

The non-white areas of Baltimore JUST got their first big box store, by the way. A Target moved into the Druid Hill Park area and has done more good for that community in the last year than has 20 years of community based small business development funding.

I would be interested to know what the response of the black business owners are. Are they embracing this or are they content with the customers that come in for that purpose.
Which side are we on? We're on the side of the demons, Chief. We are evil men in the gardens of paradise, sent by the forces of death to spread devastation and destruction wherever we go. I'm surprised you didn't know that. --Saul Tigh

The nation's welfare is enhanced when there is racial harmony because one group is not 2.5 times more likely to be in poverty than another

You must either be deaf or stupid, because I keep repeating myself, yet you keep ignoring me: AN INITIATIVE FOR "SELF-RELIANCE" IN THE BLACK COMMUNITY HURTS THE BLACK COMMUNITY.

Local business owners fought tooth and nail against the Target, obviously. Whichever of them offer competing goods are getting wiped out. Some of them are complementary to the Target and have seen business pick up (both due to increased traffic from people like me who would otherwise have had no reason to visit the area and due to employees of the Target having much more money to spend)

I see where they're coming from in the OP story, I just thing it is basically an extremist behaviour...

Personally, I try and shop locally on two levels: both in my community, and from Welsh businesses as a whole. I do this because my community is the second poorest in Cardiff, and Wales is the poorest region of the UK, so I totally see the parallels - however this targeted spending doesn't require any sort of extra effort on my part and also has an environmental angle as well (e.g. food miles for certain local Welsh produce).

I'm certainly not racist in my motivations, more 'poorist', and indirectly selfish. By supporting my local businesses, I am helping keep those businesses alive and therefore my neighbourhood improves. As the neighbourhood improves it becomes more desirable to live in, and so on...

Also, the ethnic food we buy from these shops (Chinese, Indian and Jamaican) is all significantly cheaper than your average supermarket - so again, I am not doing this for any specific altruistic reason.
Is it me, or is MOBIUS a horrible person?

"Buy black", similar to "Buy American" is just a way for relatively wealthy suppliers in a community to prey on the prejudices of less wealthy (on average) consumers.

It is a good thing for the economy that he will be putting even more in in terms of oil, autoparts, and that on top of that he'll be paying more in taxes which can then be piled back into the economy through government spending.

If race is the primary motivating factor then it would be racist no matter which race was involved, no? Now, as I said in the OP some limited forums of racism may be justified to correct past wrongs and individuals are completely free to spend their money how and where they wish, even for racist reasons, but that doesn't change the fact that racism is involved.

In my case this is quite likely simply because blacks make up 1%-2% of the population where I live so there just aren't that many blacks here to start businesses. There are a great many businesses owned by other minorities (East Asians, South Asians, Mideasterners, Hispanics, etc...), businesses owned by women, and I am certain I have purchased from those groups.
