  • So, if a car 25 years old or older is an antique...

how old does a piece of software have to be in order to be considered an antique?

I just found a boxed copy of redhat 7.2 (release date Oct 2001) in my office (plastic still on).

What do you guys think it's worth? Should I ebay it or hold on to it on the assumption that it can only appreciate in value?

It's worthless. Just as it was when it was released.

You kids learn computer stuff early these days. I never had to do any numerical work in undergrad which couldn't be achieved with Excel (even this was only for lab classes; specifically, error analysis).

I think my router at home still runs an early 2.4 kernel.

Edit: Just SSHed into it. 2.4.14

I'm not sure whether that's good for me or not...

Still, I think it'd be awesome for you to ebay that CD...

What's my expected rate of return if I hold on to it and ebay it later? I need market research. Now, damnit!
