I think people only drink stuff like that out of tradition or to prove how manly they are. That's the only reason I ever drank whiskey in the past. . Now if I feel the need to prove my manliness I drink tequila. It tastes better to me. But I admit to not drinking a good whiskey...

It depends if you are drinking cheap stuff or not. It's a very, very complex drink and far, far better than tequila.

Also try my local about 45 mins up the road: Penderyn Whisky from the foothills of the Brecon Beacons...

It's still only a young company with production commenced in 2000 after over 100 years without any whisky production in Wales (the US basically has to thank the Welsh Temperance movement for many of its most famous Bourbons ), so there hasn't been time for the spirit to age as with other single malts. However, going on what's already available - this is definitely one to watch for the future!

A very nice drop, without being biased too much.

Asher, if you're interested, these guys carry it:

Don't waste your time on Singleton from Dufftown - it's absolutely drinkable, but has no personality

Tonight I will try my Glenrothes 1974 29 yo (Bottled in 2003) and I will post a thorough review.

                Pre-review.

Great looking bottle shape. It was a gift from my wealthy brother (who does not like scotch), so it may be expensive. I'm afraid to look.
EDIT: Found out the Glenrothes 1975 is $500USD at Park Avenue Liquor (New York City) where I got the photo.

Here is a photo of the 1975:

Glenrothes 1974 29 yo Speyside Single Malt

Appearance: Rich deep golden honey color

Aroma: Hint of leather and oak with light citrus

Mouth: honey and rich malt with undertones of gingercake. Just a hint of dark chocolate. Very smooth velvety feel on the tongue.

Finish: Smooth and long with lingering vanilla. Warm and smooth all the way down.

Overall Impression: Exceptional Single Malt. Had to have a second tasting. One of the best Single Malts I have tasted. It was a gift, but I expect it is quite expensive, so I will save it for special occasions.

                      Highly Recommended.

                        Very rare indeed.

                        I still love the bottle.

                          Help needed !

A local supermarket has birthday and have Bruichladdich leagcy and 125 for about $340 where normal price is around $475.

My problem is that I'm not very fond of those Bruichladdich's I have tasted (Moine Mohr and one I can't remember the name of - they have an awful number of types and the bottles looks very much alike )

Anyone out there that can recommend/not ditto those two ?

They are cheaper than the regular Macallans, but finished in oak casks instead of port casks.

My favorite is still the 18yo Macallan. I would love to try the 25 or 30 Macallan, but they're way way too expensive.
Never tried the fine oaks. Will try.

Also, I've never tried the 25 or 30. I'll probably get around to trying one of these years.
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

I recommend that if you have that much money to waste on a drink - that you donate it to a good cause instead - namely me.
