Question about Steam. I installed it to my laptop, which is not my best computer for gaming. My brother mailed me a new computer a few days later, and I'm wondering.

To get Steam on the new computer, do I have to sign up a second time? Or can I just sign in using same userpass on the new computer and redownload?

      Use the same userpass.

I have it on several computers.

Otherwise you would hvae to buy the same games multiple times.

Okay, nice. So far I've only bought X-COM, which was really cheap. But I wanted to be sure before I bought anything more recent (and therefore more expensive).

I especially liked Portal and want to get a copy on PC. The others will be Fallout 3 and Civ4, both primarily for modding.

PC still is the place to be for game modders.

I haven't played PC games for several years. Last one I played was World of Warcraft, which I gave up a couple years ago. Also played the LOTRO trial for a few hours.

Played a lot of Xbox 360 up until a month or so ago, but my free time has been significantly reduced, and what free time I do have, I spend at the gym.

All in all, I'm much more happy with how I spend my time.

I play CIV (BtS) fairly often (3x/week?). My wife plays too. There has been a fair amount of hotseat play of late.

With work and school by the time I get to sit down at the computer it is usually 10pm. At that time I decide should I Civ for a little while or catch some shows on Hulu... Hulu generally wins because all my shows get bumped off TiVo since wife has it set to record every episode Dora the Explore, Go Diego Go, Transformers, Strawberry Shortcake, and Tom and Jerry. The only two I approve of are Transformers and Tom and Jerry.

I followed the opposite track Az did, probably because really captivating computer games didn't come out until PCs did.

I was very bookish when I was a kid, read all kinds of books running from pulp fiction and scifi-fantasy to the classics, and all kinds of nonfiction. When I went to college, I would always end up with a few extra textbooks that had nothing to do with my courseload, just because the subjects looked interesting.

That mostly went away with the dawning of the era of great computer games. It's so much more interesting to be part of the story instead of just an observer.

And the colors are so pretty.

                  Indeed!

Even without the pretty colors, Civ IV BTS is the best version of Civ ever, and I find myself playing between 10 and 20 hours a week. This finding of diversions to fill your time seems to be a kind of reverse diamond shape. When young lots of time is available. In the middle children, career, study (which doesn't stop when you get out of college), and life participation eat up "leisure" time. Then as you grow older, the spare time returns (some filled with Dr. visits, unfortunately). So at 60, I read history, science fiction, technical manuals, and play Civ.

Tried a bit of Oblivion but soon figured out the trick to staying ahead of the baddies. Found Fall-Out 3 to be shallow. Would love another old-style RPG like Darklands or Wizardry VI, VII, or 8. Other wise superhigh level strategy works just fine.

I haven't done any serious gaming in the past 4 months. But I'm getting back to it. Playing X-com ($5 on steam!) now. addictive as ever. That's the price of a beer.

Computer games I can depend on. They don't just stop calling for no good reason at all... People use me and let me down all the time. I don't have to worry about that with computer games. For the time being I'll use computer games to occupy my thoughts and pass the time.

I still play games. Mostly Civ with various over games inbetween.
Sometimes I feel that I am wasting too much time playing games but this is the best form of entertainment, I can't help it.

                          Wait, Ming's a lawyer?

If so, then hats off to him for running a site AND keeping his law practice going. That sh!t ain't easy.

Solicitation is illegal, but the act is not.

This is why I spent most of my youth gaming.

Now that I am married I can't play as much as I'd like, but I can still get 10 hours a week in if I am lucky.
