I got it working and it plays Civilization 1 just fine, so DOSBox should be able to run Master of Magic with no problems.

It was about 2 years ago that I tried it... maybe they fixed the problem I had. Something to do with the sound not working and the game would load then shutdown when it couldn't detect the audio driver or something.Comment

Okay, DOSBox will automatically try to configure your system to run Soundblaster. Not Soundblaster Pro, not Soundblaster 16. Just vanilla Soundblaster.
When the DOSBox thing loads up, it brings up two windows. The window WITHOUT the text prompt will show you the relevant IRQ etc. channels that the audio uses. Did you use those when trying to get it running?
I apologize if this is old news. Just trying to troubleshoot.

My problem with SMAC was the unit prototype/customization bit: I didn't want to use it, but couldn't bring myself to ignore it. It really messed up my enjoyment of the game.
I should try it again sometime. I think I still have it somewhere...
