  • Emails from the future

So, about a week (?) ago I noticed something strange: the timestamp on all messages received in my gmail account seem to be 12 hours off (specifically, 12 hours in the future). This would make them GMT+7 (I'm on Eastern Daylight Time currently, so this is assuming that it's GMT+7 in some place that does DST)

I didn't change any of my account settings, but I figured this is where the problem lay. So I go to

Settings -> Accounts -> Google Account Settings -> Edit Your Personal Info (which is damn hard to find, by the way), update my profile with the right time zone, save, logout, log back in and send myself a message. Same problem.

    WTF?

Try reloading. I think Google's got a bug in their date code or something. It somtimes flips AM to PM and vice versa on its groups service too.
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. reloading what? my weapon? I don't have a gun. Is that the problem?

Dan, I sent myself a NEW MESSAGE, and it's still got the same problem (records it as having been sent at 1:30 pm on Monday, April 20)

No, reloading doesn't help. It's been a consistent problem (it doesn't appear and disappear as far as I can tell). But thank you for the info. If it's a bug then I can't fix it and can stop worrying about it.

Have you received anything from Marty McFly? If you do, pay attention to them.

You should never send an email to yourself its too impersonal. If you have something you need to communicate just talk to yourself like the rest of us.

No he shouldn't do that Lance.

                    Oh shut up.

Hitler has reincarnated in your google account on the anniversary of his birthday. Since he can't invade Poland in his non-corporeal state, he's invaded your email.

I keep getting emails dated 1/19/36. And lots of them, over and over. I think someone time traveled and was trying to send me an important message, but they're in my spam folder and I usually don't open those.

                          What do you think?

Can you switch Google to a 24-hr clock? This might prevent the system from reversing AM and PM in its reporting. However, most likely you'll get 1400 when you expected 0200, no real solution in that.
