Spengler, columnist, outs himself, by I didn't really know of him

During the too-brief run of the Asia Times print edition in the 1990s, the newspaper asked me to write a humor column, and I chose the name "Spengler" as a joke - a columnist for an Asian daily using the name of the author of The Decline of the West.

So, now I'm scanning this guys old articles and trying to see what he has to say. How come I never heard of this guy and categorized him?

Well...reading him now. He seems to have a general good liberal education as indicated by name dropping cultural references and more importantly understanding the concepts involved when he name drops them. I don't quite get a blinding insight at all times though, and there are a few off times when he seems to take himself a little too seriously, be a tad pompous...and when his issue analysis is a little off also.
