  • What to Wear

So, on our trip to London this June, we are going to several plays and the Royal Ballet - don't ask.
I'm a jeans and t-shirt guy, even at work.
So .. How formal is the dress at these places? Seriously, will I need to rent a tux?
I know Wiglaf will probably recommend a banana hammock.
And indeed there will be time To wonder, "Do I dare?" and, "Do I dare?". t s eliot

Royal Ballet, I'd assume a suit at the least?

You should wear tights and a tootoo.

I have generally just dressed in a nice collared/buttoned shirt and slacks.

I bet even in a t-shirt and jeans that there will be others dressed simialrly, although most will be in suits/etc.

Wtih a Tux, you will be dressed better than most, I would think.

Wear a scuba mask and flippers.

Royal Ballet is probably at least a black tie do, right?

What is the dress code for the Royal Opera House?

It's not nearly as smart as it used to be but it's still reasonably smart. We're not talking ballgowns or anything here.

A nice dress or skirt and top will do, jeans are a bad idea, and for gents a suit or smart trousers and a blazer are fine.

These days you get a bit of everything so don't worry about it too much. Think of it as a night out in a smart restaurant and you'll do fine. Enjoy.

I think this is the look you want to go for:

I'm not gay, why would I recommend a banana hammock? My white ass suggests a suit, tie, and a healthy dose of whatever it takes to make you less self conscious. Maybe cyanide, maybe alcohol, just get something done you coward. And let's face facts: I'm about to go to a funeral for one of my worst enemies, someone who has attempted to bring me down at every opportunity but always failed. I know exactly how I am going dressed, it involves freeballing and pink pants because some people just do not deserve respect even if they died by getting decapitated watermelon-style by crashing into a farm fence.

                        Very nice, Wiggy.

Who is next to give us an uplifting story? Any volunteers? Don't try to compete with Wiggy; that's a story hard to beat for positive vibes.

As a London resident, I can advise that all people who go there wear absolutely nothing. Completely stark naked. You'd look really silly if you did otherwise.

For the opera, I'd suggest a pair of Viking horns and a shirt of chainmail. Carry a spear, or if you wish to be trendy, a trident.

...or you could do something less utterly pretentious like go down the pub or something
