For those who aspire to live in a high cost, high tax, big government place, our nation and the world offers plenty of options. Vermont, Canada and Venezuela all offer you the opportunity to live in the socialist, big government paradise you long for. –Senator Rubio
Oh, I missed it. But yea, defending the original pirates was kinda wtf.
Well the original pirates were far more egalitarian than European states and did sometimes treat African slaves as equals, but they also were a bunch of brutal, blood thirsty bastards.
“I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”
- John 13:34-35 (NRSV)
The dumping still strikes me as either bull**** or the product of locals from nearby who do not want to load the crap onto ocean going ships.
Europeans who want to save a buck are not going to want to spend the cash to ship their crap to Somalia if all they have to do is go 200 miles into the Atlantic.

I love the part about how the original pirates were all egalitarians.
Haven't you ever played SM's Pirates? Very egalitarian for the day and age.
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891
Oh, I missed it. But yea, defending the original pirates was kinda wtf, but the fishing and dumping parts definitely deserve mention and examination.
No, they don't, and KrazyHorse already more than adequately dealt with this issue. To briefly recap:
1)It is the responsibility of national governments to both enforce territorial water boundaries and to set rules for actions that may take place within those boundaries.
2)In the absence of such regulations, regarding things such as dumping and fishing, you can't claim there is anything legally wrong with doing either by international law. Also, the dumping claim is extremely dubious, anyway.
3)If the pirates are really concerned about this, they should be focusing their attention on forming a cohesive national government willing and able to discharge its rights and responsibilities under treaties and international law, and regulate national territorial waters.
4)Any extra-legal actions the pirates are taking remains illegal, by international law, and the entire world has jurisdiction against these pirates by the same international law.

Funny how people say, that the pirates should form a stable government, when it is apparent, if what the article says has at least some truth to it, that pretty much every government in the world (that counts) has a vested interest in them not establishing a stable government - and will probably act according to that interest.
I find it rather naive btw, in general, when people think or assume that there is evil people (usually them - ´the others´), who do evil without any good reason, and good people (usually themselves) who are just poor victims of the former and wholeheartedly refuse and neglect any indication, that their self-perception is not quite on the point. Evil deeds are mostly done for good reasons - only later you (might) get side-boarders who do the evil stuff out of habit and tradition more or less. Anyway it borders blunt stupidity to actually take this game of ´why are you beating yourself?´ as serious fact. Face it: On average and by default, people are neither more stupid nor more evil than anyone of us here - so dont assume that. Rather ask what would make you go pirating and ask if this might actually be the case for ´them´. Whatever the reasons may be - they do exist, of that i am certain.
Pretty much, yeah. So, the smart play would be for the pirates to organize themselves into a "Somali Coast Guard" and start hitting the fishing trawlers.
Not container ships from countries that aren't stealing their fish.
