What's the state-of-the-art in Russia's military? Airplanes (transports, bombers, air-to-air, air-to-ground), helicopters, stealth technology? How about submarines and naval fleets (do they even have aircraft carriers?) Tanks and land vehicles, anything interesting there?

The joint naval maneuvres with the Venezualin navy is not such an accomplishment, sure. But at least those ships did something usefull when they where heading home through the gulf of Aden - they captured a pirate ship that was attacking a cargo ship. And a trip from Murmansk to Venezuela, then to Johannesburg, then through the gulf of Aden and mediterranian back home to Murmansk is quite a long trip, if you ask me.
So the rusty Russian nuclear cruisers exists only in your dreams.
