Because when we had them working night and day on producing better baseball players, and they succeeded, Congress got all pissy about it. The "better living through chemistry" principle is still sound, but we've just become jaded about the prospects of getting to enjoy the benefits without much hassle.

Yes. I've thought about it (and I'd actually heard of that drug before)

Cafe du Monde + Evaporated Milk + ice is the standard vietnamese coffee around here. However I discovered I can get a double espresso with Baileys at the local Italian trattoria.

As far as scientists working on new pep juices, I read last year in PopSci about a substance that so far hasn't shown any negative effects and lasts longer than coffee. It's not for commercial sale yet but supposedly a lot of college kids get a hold of it. Don't remember what it was called.
