BTW the Republicans are already filibustering or threatening to filibuster virtually every one of Obama's nominees for his own administration so what the hell is the difference? Anyone remember when Republicans supported Bush's nominations for some of the most right wing extremists imaginable but all the Republicans in Congress said "each administration has the right to staff their administration how they like". Gee, suddenly they don't feel that way any more. What frauds.

Seriously, release all of Bush's torture memos so that the legal case for war crimes can be made even better because there literally is no downside. Republicans already are blocking most Obama nominees so what the hell does Obama have to lose. He should stand up to these bullies and show the world exactly what they're like.

I have to agree. They have to many insiders and not enough outsiders. Same goes with people like Geithner. If they really wanted to change things then they'd make a clean break with the past by releasing the memos and going after war criminals themselves rather then having us relay upon a Spanish Court to punish what is clearly criminal misconduct.

I'll bet the righties spend more time in the "nomination woes" thread fretting about congressional audits than they do in this thread which has worlds more to be concerned about.

        But then...that's not terribly surprising.

R U serious? If so, then the Senate should abolish the filibuster (it should anyway, since it's undemocratic). I'm no fan of Obama, but how's he supposed to run a government without a cabinet?

Do like he did for the Treasury and have people work the positions w/o the titles for the workhorse posts. As for the cabinet itself, even the repugs can't afford to look like they're stopping the govt from working these days w/o serious consequences.

OTOH they could offer carrot and stick... the carrot being Obama will let Bush off the hook if they let them go after the rest.

Call their bluff. Release the torture memos and let the American people decide. Then the Republicans can take the heat for their obstructionism is they dare to follow through with their threats. I bet the American people will remember just who tried to find solutions to problems and who was simply obstructionist. In the end this would blow up in their faces just like it did when Newt shut down the Federal government and prevented vets and pensioners from getting their checks.

This is the difference between Jesus and Obama. Jesus could build a cabinet.

Oh, Obama has nominated all of his key cabinet members all right. Republicans are just blocking most of them. I think most people know exactly who is to blame for that one.

Of course they'd be declassified first, they're releasing documents not leaking them.

And because torture is a crime, and because these memos were written to "justify" this crime, they are most probably evidence of the crime.
It's extremely unlikely that there will be no "smoking gun" unearthed from memos discussing the legal justitification for certain methods of interrogation. This is merely a publicity stunt designed to appease the far left of the democratic party who've not been getting the goodies that Obama promised them.
