        NPS.

Winrar is heaps better than winzip anyways.

WinRAR is ass. So is WinZip.

Neither are multi-core enabled, which is just criminal today.

          Use PowerArchiver.

When is processing speed rather than disk access going to be your bottleneck? 7-zip ftw.

On my systems, apparently, because PowerArchiver is about 3x as fast as WinRAR.

I hadn't compared with 7-zip but I think that's multicore in PowerArchiver as well.
              edit: Yes, it is.

You can clearly see disk access isn't the only bottleneck: http://www.tomshardware.com/charts/c...inRAR,402.html

It could just be smarter about how it interleaves reads and writes.

I've found 7-zip's speed to be wholly dependent on how much of the file is still in cache.

If WinRAR isn't unzipping your pr0n fast enough for you, you're just too horny; the software is fine.

Look at that and tell me CPU usage doesn't bottleneck.

Keep in mind that's all single-core.

What decade do you live in? WinRAR doesn't do **** for videos.

Powerarchiver is ****. It doesn't even open isos.

                        3rd rate software.

Yes it does, you tool. It has for many years.

It even lets you create ISOs manually or create ISOs from a disk in your drive. And it'll even mount the ISOs for you also.

Shrug. It's possible they were reading the file from one disk and compressing to another.

Compression, especially for 7zip and RAR, is actually extremely CPU intensive if it's done properly.

Compress a file then open up the task manager...
