  • Blockbuster is about to die. Does anyone care?

    I know I don't.

Netflix and zip.ca are infinitely superior. Too little, too late Blockbuster.

Take your late fees and shove 'em.

I haven't been to blockbuster in years. No need.

I haven't been to Blockbuster voluntarily since they screwed up a late payment - I made a late payment at one store and apparently they didn't credit it properly, because it still showed as due at another store.

I turned around and left, and went to Hollywood Video next door, and haven't been back. Netflix, iTunes, or nothing.

I won't miss 'em. Hadn't been there for a long time, decided to grab a movie, and it cost me $5.17? Oh, but I get to keep it for a week. That's great, but I only want to watch it tonight, retards. Hell, even the 'Red rent-a-box' videos are better now; they're only $1/night.

          See ya.

            iTunes?

It's zip.ca (netflix) or OnDemand or downloading for me, only.

I didn't even know Blockbuster was still around. I guess they won't be collecting on that copy of Ghostbusters we took out back in '01.

iTunes is easy; not necessarily cheap, but it works well and quick enough. I don't care about spending $4 or whatever on a rental, we don't rent often enough anyway, except for free netflix downloadables.

And of course I don't download unless it's legit.

Do you have an Apple TV? If so, shame on you (for buying one). If not, shame on you (for renting from iTunes without one).

No, and I don't see why it matters; it's a perfectly fine way to get videos if you don't mind the price. How would you prefer me legally acquire just-released movies over the 'net?

                      Netflix streaming?

                      XBLM?

All of these offer higher quality for the same price, or cheaper.

Netflix doesn't stream just-released movies; and XBLM requires XBL Gold, doesn't it? And how is it cheaper?

Anyway, odds are decent we'll watch it on the PC and not on the TV (particularly if Tam watches it by herself - so she can do so at her PC and not in the room with my PC and the TV). And it doesn't require streaming (even with our 6MBPS connection, sometimes streaming has hiccups, particularly in high-demand times).

Yes, the (good) TV is in the room with my PC. I'm not a complete idiot.

I, like snoopy, have turned to Hollywood instead of Blockbuster due to poor customer service. I always joked that a great job would be a manager at Blockbuster because they did nothing all day, needed no personal skills, and could score cheap weed of teenage employees.

Guess their TiVo thing ain't going to help?

Well, for one you don't get charged per stream for Netflix.

XBLM does not require XBL Gold.

Apple's download service has the lowest bitrates of the bunch.

I just think this is a lot of pain.

Personally, I get Blurays delivered via zip.ca (no online streaming from zip or netflix in Canuckistan) but I download many, many TV shows/movies because the online services are not available here. I then stream them from the PC to the TV... This is why I've got 2.5TB of storage. I've got an insane back catalog of TV shows/movies all from the touch of a remote on my couch. I even have my PC (which is in another room) wake-on-LAN capable so I can turn it on from my couch and stream from it.

I'm in the process of evaluating the use of a NAS (like the new 8TB RAID NAS I think Seagate announced) for this purpose also.
