Following today's announcement of the appointment of Anders Fogh Rasmussen as Secretary General of NATO effective 1 August, his resignation after 7½ years as Danish PM is now imminent.
His successor as PM will be his deputy, Finance Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen. There will not be a general election to facilitate the change, as the new Rasmussen has the backing of a majority in Parliament.
He'll be the third PM in a row named Rasmussen, which should be of special delight to a guy like Stefu, further enhancing his often aired hypothesis that all Danes are named Rasmussen one way or another.
It is quite remarkable actually; as surnames go, Rasmussen is not all that common here. I'd estimate that it's just within the top 40 of surnames.
The first Rasmussen PM was a crazy Social Democrat named Poul Nyrup Rasmussen, who took office in January of 1993. So we're going on the 17th consecutive year of Rasmussens, with no end in sight.
Also, in just one opening post, I have now ensured that any future Poly search, however unlikely, for the term "Rasmussen" will bring this thread out on top.
