Che: It´s kinda funny, how you dismantle ´race´ as a social contruction (which is correct), and then go on talking about ´the west´ (which is basically the same - is Japan part of the ´west´ or not, for example ? - how about the ukraine?).

I am wondering: Being ´blue eyed´, at least in Germany, is also a proverb for being naive. Maybe he meant something like that?

Lula is a proletarian who managed to become president after a long political career. A quite remarkable one and Brazil has progressed with him.

But often his language is not very diplomatic, and he says things he shouldnt say.

His point was that this crisis began in the first world, not in third world countries like the south east asian crisis of 98, the Mexico crisis of 95, the Argentine crisis of 2001 etc

And the other point he tried to make was that the expertise, knowledge and authority of, for example, rating agency Standard and Poors, or the now defunct Lehman Brothers, was highly overrated.

No, he didn't mean that Unimatrix.
He just meant that the first world is guilty for this crisis.
That now the USA is having a crisis like Thailand in 97, Argentina in 2001, Chile in 1982 or Mexico in 95.

His comment was pure schadenfreude, not racism.

The Ukraine is, like Russia, neither.

Well, if a crisis had severe global effects, it is very unlikely to have its origins in some peripherial part of the system, uh? Thailand, Argentina, Chile and Mexico taken altogether do not hold as much significance to the global economy as the US does. So even if nobody knew, where it originated, it would be logical to conclude it was in somewhere in the ´1st world´.

And yeah, busniess counceling is something really odd to me as well. For example, europe´s two top tourism companies, the ´TUI´ and ´Thomas Cook´ are both being counceled (or at least have been a couple of years ago) by the same counceling group (McKenzie, i think). Thus both have the same business concept and strategy. Which is dumb to the extreme: The two main competitors are both trying to do exactly the same thing, which of course only intensifies their competition. I wonder, how you can even employ the same agency as your main competitor, or how you can honestly councel both (thats like playing chess against yourself, no?). And what they are counceling also sucks ass at times. For the TUI they recommended vertical integration, meaning getting and preserving a costumer from the very beginning of his travel-plans until he comes back home, trying to get every penny he spents in between. That is, of course, i sound idea, as long as everything a tourist does generates a profit-opportunity for you. But once compeition gets really fierce (not least, because of your main-competitior trying to do exactly the same thing, for reason mentioned above), those profit-opportunities became loss-threats: On most of the steps a tourist does during his travel, price-dumping set in, and many turned into net-losses. So instead of having a long chain of subsequent pluses, they all of a sudden had a long row of subseqeunt minuses (and a debt of 4B Euro). Specialisation would be the obvious answer, but one of the main purposes of the TUI seems to be to compensate for something lacking in the pants of Mr. Frenzel (CEO?) with it´s ever rising volume and turnover - they buy other companies like crazy, without having any strategy as to how to implement them into their own business model (myTravel, i think was the most recent example). I actually heard the former strategy boss of TUI germany on this, and he said, that he´s pretty glad to be out of that one, since there is no real concept - it´s more like: If we dont buy them, TC will, and then we wont be #1 in europe anymore - and that is simply not acceptable.

                    Uh, yeah, rambling again...

Survey says? *BUZZ* There was the Chinese Exclusion Act (a Federal law pushed by white Californians) but Chinese were never considered black, hispanic, or native. In fact legally speaking in the 19th century they were considered "white" abet undesirable whites and Chinese women were especially thought to be prostitutes and so undesirable in any Christian community. Chinese men were welcome provided they didn't get uppity or complain about things like wages or working conditions. It wasn't until there was a large Chinese community in some cities developed, example San Francisco, that an organized anti-Chinaman movement appeared and even there it was mostly a national movement.
