The environment under which civilization arose won't survive the profit motive. Whether or not civilization can survive is another question, but I'm not optimistic on the issue. Even if it does, it will result in massive death and disruption and population movement.
Christianity: The belief that a cosmic Jewish Zombie who was his own father can make you live forever if you symbolically eat his flesh and telepathically tell him you accept him as your master, so he can remove an evil force from your soul that is present in humanity because a rib-woman was convinced by a talking snake to eat from a magical tree...

Actually they are. There is mention of nuclear warfare on 21st century Earth in SMAC's continuity but the details just don't match up.

Example: Miriam is said to be from "The Christian states of America".
Modern man calls walking more quickly in the same direction down the same road “change.”
The world, in the last three hundred years, has not changed except in that sense.

I suppose I'd better get in better shape if I'm gonna be a Spartan.
Which side are we on? We're on the side of the demons, Chief. We are evil men in the gardens of paradise, sent by the forces of death to spread devastation and destruction wherever we go. I'm surprised you didn't know that. --Saul Tigh

You make capitalism sound sexy. I think it's your unique talent.

Yeah, all the indications strongly suggest that the exact details of America (especially) may contradict between the two.

But did you ever notice how the Fallout US Flag only has something like 13 stars, arranged in a circle. Obviously, Occam's razor wouldn't apply, but I think there might just be enough wiggle room to say something like the "Christian States" seceded from the union and Miriam came from there. The remaining union had 13 states and was still a fairly coherent nation up till the last war.

Something like that. It's not very graceful and it's the sort of post-hoc rationalization that spawns lots of frothing fan arguments on GameFAQs, but it's the best I can do.

Yeah, it´s probably fun, if you want to be part of the action - but if you dont, yet are forced to: Not so much, eh?

The 13 stars represent the 13 commonwealths of the USA. A commonwealth is an intermediate level of integration between state and federal government that exists in the fallout universe.
