Use Pandora.com. You can enter bands you like and it will recommend other bands which are similar to the ones you have already selected. The service might be limited to the US though as I recall reading that back in 2006 Republicans increased the royalty rates corporations (but not artists) get for songs played by internet radio stations.
I've never tried last.fm but I've heard they have a search function which works similar to Pandora.Try http://wordforge.net/index.php for discussion and debate. -
