  • Siestas

    After a large lunch, a co-worker and I were discussing the benefits of a siesta. We decided that siestas are enjoyed in Mexico, Spain, and Iran. She opined that France and Italy also have siestas, but I dunno.

    Are siestas traditional where you are?
    ...and if so, where the heck are you?

    USA = No siestas.

    I'd rather not have a siesta. I'd rather not be at work until 8 PM.
    “I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”

      On weekends, I officially have a siesta. During the workweek, unofficial.
      Life is not measured by the number of breaths you take, but by the moments that take your breath away.

        Yeah but Sloww, you have a damned good reason to take it easy now

        Personally, I'm experimenting with siestas, because I find it difficult to work during the day, but also I can't sleep some nights and then I'm screwed for an entire week. I'm trying to see if a siesta in the day means I can work later at night and still get up in the morning and not feel like death warmed up.

            In the book Brain Rules it mentions that a short nap can be good, and is definitely preferential to working tired.

              It might actually make you more competitive in a global economy. If you're expected to work with people an ocean away, being at work over a broader span while taking a break in the middle is better than working a compressed workday.

                  In the Phils the workers commonly take a one hour lunch during which they sleep maybe 40 minutes.

                    Sounds like a siesta to me.
