So US automakers get government backed loans and DanS screams BAILOUT! But if Japanese automakers get government backed loans it isn't a bailout? Nice logic there.

Sure, the initial sums are smaller but we'll have to see what the ultimate amounts really are.

You didn't address my rationale behind the distinction, which, by the way, has nothing to do with magnitude.
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

Eh, that sort of thing is expected for the East Asian economies, though. They're pseudo-capitalist that way.

They're not entirely capitalist; they're sensible enough to protect their own national industries which increasingly the US is to dumb to do. Managed competition or national capitalism are the terms I've heard used.

            Oerdin, that's what "pseudo-capitalist" meant...

"pseudo", as I'm sure you know, meaning "false"...

The capitalists realize the economy is a sinking ship and are trying to get as much wealth out of the population as they can.
