not much into running but I recently got some New Balance running shoes with good arch support for golf (and my heelspur). They're good shoes

consider me one of those who swears by New Balance. I'm a recent convert, but they're the best running shoes I've ever worn.

You've been wearing the same pair of Vans for running for several years? Even a good pair of running shoes rarely lasts more than 1 year before they break down.

I find that, once there's a cop behind me, any shoes I happen to be wearing become excellent running shoes.

Yeah, they are pretty bad. At least I normally run on treadmills where they don't hurt my legs/etc (from the impact).

The new ones I got are 10s, while I normally wear 10.5s. I probably could even have gone to 9.5s but these should be far better than I was use to.

Jon - Did you get someone who knows something about running at the shoe store?

Fit is very individual so you cannot go by what someone else thinks. As well the shape of your arch and your running style are something you need to consider before buying running shoes.

The 'high arch' runners tend to be underpronators (some even come down on their toes - a women in my club says the cushioning in the heal part of the shoe is meaningless because her heal never hits the ground). I am the opposite - low arches and my heals of my runners are toast before the rest of the shoe is worn too badly.

I went with the New Balance 850s/860s series for years mostly because I need a nice wide toe box. This year they put in extra cushioning in the heal and I can no longer wear them. So I got my first ever pair of Brooks last week.

Going down a half size is a good way to lose toenails. Going to a too big size will accelerate blistering.

Just get up 5 minutes earlier in the morning and you won't need no running shoes.

NB Although I've found that it really depends on what level of arch support your foot needs (and pronation, etc)

Well my running shoes are going fine after a year, and that is doing about 10km 3 times a week...although admittedly, on a treadmill
