  • Here Comes Lulin

Apparently a rare comet is nearby. After reading some of the articles about it, and giving it a second thought, I find it interesting that this comet is apparently on a one-time trip: it is supposed to gain enough speed to be ejected right out of the Solar system.

It makes me think that perhaps more comets from the farthest reaches (Oort Cloud) do fall into the inner Solar system occasionally (Solar winds must help eject them out as they slingshot past the Sun since they are not in anything like a stable orbit). With the many millions of comets that linger out there in the cloud, I wonder if we will see more and more of them start to fall in towards the Sun in years to come?
