  • Alrighty Then. Something I'm Choosing To Blame On Obama

Today is the first of THREE Friday the 13ths this year. By God, someone is to blame, and I'm choosing the illustrious President Obama. WTG! I hope you're satisfied.

      13 isn't an unlucky number.

You want to know an unlucky number? 4.

Yeah, quite the coincidence. The book I finished yesterday had a section on how 4 was the unlucky number in Japan.

It's actually all over the Sinosphere. Started in China, not Japan.

4 is lucky in Vietnam. I remember when it was claimed the Thieu-Ky ticket was rigging the vote because they'd placed themselves fourth on the ballot.

BTW: I've been told that the reason Friday the 13th is considered unlucky is because the Last Supper was on a Friday, and there were thirteen people at the table.

                And 14 is even worse.

                ...

When you have to count one number above 39, it's not even worth mentioning it.

We should really change presidential terms to 5 years then.
                  Unbelievable!

Finally, a sensible thread to criticize Obama on.

Obama caused the Senate and the House to agree to stimulate a massive package.

I support this purely on a matter of principle.

I was sort of amazed that in the Arab and Asian countires I have visited even brand new buildings still omit floors because of unlucky numbers. I haven't encountered this in the states with any building built since I have been alive.

                          From Wikipedia:

The levels of a multi-story building are numbered sequentially, from "basement", "one" or "ground" upwards. In some countries, the number 13 is considered unlucky and building owners will sometimes purposefully omit a floor so numbered. Hence, the 13th floor is given the number 14. Even landlords who are not themselves superstitious realize that the desirability of suites on a floor 13 might be compromised because of superstitious tenants, or commercial tenants who worry about losing superstitious customers. Based on an internal review of records, Dilip Rangnekar of Otis Elevators estimates that 85% of the buildings with elevators did not have a floor named the 13th floor.

I've seen buildings in the US that have omitted the 13th floors.
