  • Petition to add Young Turks to MSNBC

Some of our more progressive poster here may be familiar with an online talk show known as The Young Turks (TYT), hosted by Cenk Uygur and available live at http://www.theyoungturks.com/ and on their youtube channel http://www.youtube.com/user/TheYoungTurks which is one of the most popular channels on youtube.

TYT is now seeking to replicate the success of Rachel Maddow by getting their own show in the 10pm slot at MSNBC, they have announced their intentions and created a petition drive for fans to write to MSNBC. Their manifesto and the details of ware to write too are at this Huffingtonpost story.

Yes, I might have a funny name. Yes, I might have been accused of being a Muslim. But I remember another man who had similar problems who didn't let those things stand in his way.

In addition a facebook petition group has been created for those with facebook accounts to show their support by joining.

If your a fan of more progressive voices in the mainstream media please support TYT, I've found Cenk Uygur to be one of the most entertaining and insightful people on the entire internet and he would be invaluable in advancing the progressive cause.
Companions the creator seeks, not corpses, not herds and believers. Fellow creators, the creator seeks - those who write new values on new tablets. Companions the creator seeks, and fellow harvesters; for everything about him is ripe for the harvest. - Thus spoke Zarathustra, Fredrick Nietzsche

Why would you want to put him on a network few people watch?

They actually have been coming in second place a lot ahead of CNN but behind Faux Noise. It really depends on the show as different shows get radically different ratings.

To be serious for a second, there already is a CNBC show also titled "The Young Turks" (featuring a bunch of old non-Turks), which may raise some copyright issues that weren't raised online. Not that chaning the title would be a big deal though.
                  Unbelievable!

I would still consider MSNBC a distant third, which is exactly why they should jump at the opportunity to sign these guys.

Old audiences are worth a lot less as far as advertising revenue. Excluding them, the Fox ranking decreases by quite a bit, and the MSNBC ranking increases by quite a bit (past CNN).
