What happened was a perfect storm of government regulation, excess money, and greed. Without the government regulation, this would have happened anyway, and in fact, has happened before. One need only look at the South Florida property bubble of the 1920s for confirmation. But the regulations made it easier.

No, the real problem is there was too much money seeking investment and an unjustified belief that American property values never deflate. Even if the borrower defaulted on the loan, the lender assumed it would at least end up holding a piece of property worth the amount of the loan or more, and could thus recover its costs. They refused to believe that in many sectors, the housing market was over-valued, and so when the inevitable defaults started coming in, the banks would be left with a half empty bag. The real winners are those who sold just before the bubble burst, and so what basically happened was a transfer of wealth from greedy pigs to home sellers. Now the greedy pigs want the public to bail out their stupidity.

There's really no point in trying to teach you, even if I was so inclined. Actually, common equities are much worse than "teh eveile drivativesses". They're long gdp growth, short interest rates, some long oil, some short oil, some long wheat some short wheat and some you're not even sure where, some long Yen, some short Euro, and some short VIX.

The SEC wanted to regulate them but were headed off by this amendment. You know that as well as I but you're bringing up nonissues because you can't bare to be wrong. The MBS market could have been regulated and controlled, the SEC wanted it regulated and controlled, but a certain Republican Senator intervened to make that impossible because he was bribed by the very people who profited from the MBS fraud. You know it, I know it.

BTW I am still waiting for you to back up the statements you made above. No comment? No evidence? Are you just talking out of your ass again?

I suspect that there's MORE than enough blame to go around, no matter which side of the ideological fence you're on (and if you can't man up to that, at the very least, then you're in the same league with HARDMAN...a garden variety troll).
