What's funny is that both lo-carb (meat-heavier) and vegan (beans/vegetable-heavier) diets produce massively stinky farts. Only bread-based diets give you less farts, and less stinky farts.

My rule of thumb is to compare the amount against the amount of people who died in car accidents during the same period of time. Weighted. 24 per 500000 per month versus 42000 per 300000000 per year, which equals 3.5 per 300000 per month. Okay, that is a significant amount of deaths. Do something about it.

And I would agree with you that there are things and situations that cause more harm, but we here on 'poly aren't likely to do anything of substance about any of them.

The fact that we can't draw a hard line after which deaths become important doesn't mean that any death actually matters. That's a basic fallacy.

It also doesn't mean that it's not important enough to have a discussion about.

To those who scoff at the thread because it's "only" 24 people, I would ask this question:

How many people have to die before it becomes important?

The United States is involved in two serious conflicts, and our forces suffer more deaths due to suicide than enemy action. That's pretty phenomenal. Is 24 a good number? No. Is it cause for panic though? No. Without more information, it's still possible that it's just a random spike. Sometimes you flip a coin and get heads ten times in a row, sometimes 24 people commit suicide in a month.

If it turns out that there is a connection, like say 19 of them were prescribed the same medication, then that would be something to worry about. Right now we just don't have much information to go on though.
