  • Sloww Cooking Suggestions

So I've been using my slow cooker to make pork chop, chuck roast and chicken dinners. YUM!
So far, I've been using fresh red onions and Lipton's dry onion mix for more flavoring.

But what about using fresh pepper bells (green, red, orange, or yellow) for flavoring? Has anyone even tried using sliced jalepenos to make a SPICY sloww-cooked dinner?

    Any other ideas are welcomed.

My mother used bell peppers in the crock pot all the time.

      Try sweet yellow onions also.

I don't particularly care for the taste of jalapenos.

      ACK!

I normally use my slow cooker to make pot roast using rather tough cuts of meat. Never tried a chicken in a pot roast before as I always thought the chicken would get over done and turn tough & chewy. Lately I've been doing whole chickens on my BBQ's rotisserie attachment with nothing more then a bit of butter stuffed under the skin, the skin lightly brushed with a olive oil, and then a bit of cajun dry rub season sprinkled on. The results are amazingly good for so simple a recipe.

Well, duh... of course. My slow cooked chili has from 3-5 jalapenos chopped (but NOT seeded... keep the seeds).

                      Do not remove the seeds?

Trust me, chicken breasts work just fine in a slow cooker. I make mine that way, and they always turn out to be real tender and they're not dry at all.

You mean there are Southern recipes that do NOT call for frying?

Do NOT remove the seeds. Keep them in the chili. That's where you'll get the nice spiced flavor.

I put things like dried beans, barley, jalapone peppers, onions, garlic, canned tomatoes, and other such things in mine.
