    Hi MWHC!!!!!!!!!!!!
    Welcome back.

You should really consider picking up a copy of CivIV and then BTS. While we all hated Civ III for MP, and continued playing Civ II till hell froze over, we finally go a new MP game worth playing. It's far more savage and a much better game.
    Keep on Civin'
RIP rah, Tony Bogey & Baron O

hi ming what is BTS? i broke down after a few years without CIV and purchased it online.... now, CivIV and BTS... what's better, buying online or buying the CD and box too? or does it not make a difference?

Buy it online so you don't need no stinkin' disc.
And BTS is Beyond the Sword, the latest expansion pack for Civ IV. It makes Civ IV a much better game, and you need it to play MP since we all have it.
        Keep on Civin'
RIP rah, Tony Bogey & Baron O

          BtS is the expansion.

Buying online is better, because you don't have to have the CD in the drive www.direct2drive.com ...

          http://www.direct2drive.com/4192/pro...Sword-Download specifically.

It is totally different. All Human players move at the same time, so it really speeds up play. It does however make combat REAL interesting. And remember, in Civ II, if you killed a single unit in the stack, you killed the whole stack. That is not the case anymore... THANK GOD!

'you killed the whole stack. That is not the case anymore... THANK GOD!

' and that kinda makes the fortress improvement less worth building... in fact, is that even something to build like in civ ii? i guess i'm just going to have to buy it

It's sort of real time. Everyone moves at the same time; you still have 'turns' in that it's 4000 BC and then you do stuff, units have 1 move or whatever, then the tick happens to 3960 BC, and your unit has a move available again. But you don't take your turn, then sit there and wait for a while while you get attacked, and then it's your turn again.

Well, sometimes you sit and wait, if certain slowpokes are playing

Oh, and if you don't have Civ4 basic (I interpreted that you did, from your earlier post, but now I am not sure!) you need it along with BtS ... so either http://www.direct2drive.com/4/5917/p...undle-Download (if you want both expansions, the middle expansion Warlords is only needed for certain scenarios) or http://www.direct2drive.com/4193/pro...undle-Download if you only want Civ4+BtS for $15 cheaper. Either will let you play with us on the week-ends. If you want a one-on-one-butt-kicking to get acclimated to the format, let me know any evening (if RAH lets me go home, which he currently isn't ... chained to the computer cranking out code ...)
