Caught on Tape: Campus Cops Resort to Pepper Spray & Handcuffs to Stop Huge Snowball Fight

GREENVILLE, N.C. (AP) - Authorities at a North Carolina college say a huge snowball fight got out of control, forcing campus police to use pepper spray on some students to contain the rowdy crowd.

Police were called to a dormitory at East Carolina University three times Tuesday as hundreds of students pelted each other with snow, The Daily Reflector of Greenville reported. The college is in a part of the state which doesn't get snow often, but a rare storm dropped several inches on campus that day.

Police said some students were getting too aggressive and an officer used pepper spray on a group that rushed officers trying to make an arrest.

Junior Brandon Davis said "it all started in good nature, but then people were throwing them as hard as they could at each other." Junior Matt Lunchick said an officer chased and arrested a student after being hit in the back with a snowball.
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

OH, THE HORROR. Whenever I toss snowballs I try to not throw it hard.

The linked video in the story doesn't show the pepper spraying, but if the officers were trying to make an arrest and a group of students rushed up to the officers in an aggressive manner, the students were morons. The officers will probably get away with using OC spray in this circumstance since they could claim that they feared being assaulted and that OC spray doesn't kill, it just hurts like a mother****er. However, looking at the video accompanying the story, using OC might have been a little excessive given the context of the situation.

Ice balls, maybe? Bottom-line, it drew attention, a warning was issued and ignored.
But, it's always the policeman's fault, I know.

I live 1 and a half hours from Pitt County where ECU is.

This is the same campus police were throwing students around after a football game, but it was out of town officers in to help.

As for snow we got 3 inches here in Onslow County and maybe 5-6 inches in Greenville area where ECU is.

The worse of the weather was the black Ice (not contributed to President Obama) 2 nights in a row.

As Patrick Henry once said, "**** the police."

If you want to live in a country where everybody meekly obeys the authorities, you're in the wrong place. This here is the land of the free and the home of the brave.

Police are seriously out of control in much of America. I think it's because some people would rather be alive than free. So instead of a free society we have seat-belt laws, and gun control, and a war on drugs.

We have disgraced our founding fathers.
