  • Clueless ****ing Morons (dog park topic)

Note to morons out there: When an area of a park is marked off-leash, that means there will be dogs off-leash in that area.

If you want to fish in that area, rather than in the area reserved for fishing, don't ***** at me when my dog scares away the fish by jumping in the water.

If you jog in that area, rather than on the literal miles of paved and unpaved paths elsewhere in the park, don't get upset when dogs chase and/or run along side you (though I'll grant they shouldn't be jumping on you.)

If you go to any park, but especially an off-leash park, don't wear clothes you care about. And if you do, don't stand by where the dogs are getting out of the water and shaking themselves dry.

And most of all, if you bring your dog into the area, and keep it on a leash (WHY? YOU ARE MISSING THE ENTIRE ****ING POINT!) don't glare at me because my dogs run up and sniff yours, and then yours wants to play and yanks your arm off. The dogs are supposed to socialize. That is the objective, to bring them somewhere where they can play with other dogs. Why people who want their dogs to have contact with other dogs seem to be in the extreme minority, even at a park specifically for dogs, I don't understand.

So anyway, I like off-leash parks, except for all the morons that go to them. Does your community have off-leash parks? Do you use them? Like them? Run into morons while there? Been a moron while there? Discuss!

I think any sucker who has to chosen to have a dog deserves to have to waste their time to look after their dog.

Typical, eh? You leave your dog off the leash, you get crap from the public.

You want to have a boy on a leash, you have to do it in private and pay a member's fee.

What kind of a world do we live in.

I read the title as "Clueless ****ing Mormons." The actual post has a lot less entertainment value, but I agree 100%. I'd kill for an off-leash park near my house.

Seriously, that troll is weak even by poly standards. Put in a little effort or don't bother please.

@Dis: It wasn't always a dog park, so I guess the fish are left over from when they stocked the lake. Or, the guy was wasting his time fishing a pond with no fish. Or, they are still stocking the lake because they enjoy wasting money. I'm not really sure.

I hate even worse the clueless "dog" people who let their aggressive and excitable dogs off leash, then think it's funny when they get into fights.

I'm just happy with having a cat that doesn't need me to look after himself, but still wants to be in the same room as me, instead of having a dog that demands me to do stuff for him (and if my cat demands stuff he doesn;t get it, except when he wants to go outside for the toilet)

                      Dogs ought to be outlawed.

At least in the general area where I deliver the mail.

Well, it sure sounded like one. I just don't consider myself a sucker for liking dogs (and a cat isn't an option anyway, since I'm allergic.). And I wasn't complaining about needing to care for my dogs, I was complaining about people who go into off-leash areas but don't seem to want to be around off-leash dogs.

@Supr49er: Not sure if you were just stating a general case or directing at me, but you are right, there are certain behavioral standards to be observed. That said, there's play dog fights and then there's real dog fights. I've found almost all non-dog people and a surprising large portion of dog owners can't tell the difference. Not that I have to deal with either (one dog is too old and arthritic to cause trouble, the other pretty much just wants to play fetch), but I do bring a leash with me in case one of the dogs gets out of hand. I haven't needed to use it, they're decently trained, but I do have it on me. It isn't about letting my dogs run completely out of control, but it is about them having more freedom than they would in a different environment.

But to be extra clear: jumping on a dog is a few minutes on a leash. Jumping on a human is get in the car, park time's over. Running up and sniffing is completely acceptable, it's how dogs say "hello."

@Winston: You have dogs running lose in the neighborhood? Or you just don't even like them barking at you? If the former, bad owners and completely legitimate concern. If the latter, cry emo-boy.

Seedle, the fights are some bad experiences I have had in local dog parks. My two female yellow labs have been attacked before (rare though) and the other dog's owner thought it was funny.
Most of the time it's really good though. They seem to like the dog beach more.

I like dogs but it sounds like your's is untrained. My dad's dog literally is the best trained dog I've ever seen as a family pet. He automatically heels even when off the leash, he will stop and come back when called (even if he was about to chase after a squirrel or something), he rarely barks and will stop when told, and in short is all around pleasant. No, he didn't start out that way and it took several years of very consistent training to get him that way but the end result is well worth it.

Just be a good owner, put in the hard effort, and train your dog.
