Amazing that the writers have actually managed to pique my interest again. After having the characters achieve the goal they had been working for the past 4 seasons they managed to put a whole new goal in place.

Who was the woman in the church who told Ben he only had 70 hours to get everybody back?

Yeah, the writers have scored again. Some of it may be because it's been awhile, but a big part is the plot has somewhere to go. Having one group with a real goal (sucker everyone back to the island) gives you a feeling of progress. In the middle seasons many shows didn't really contribute to the overall plot and seemed like filler episodes. No one can say last night was filler

Hugo had some great scenes in this episode.

Who was the woman in the church who told Ben he only had 70 hours to get everybody back?
That was Ms. Hawkings. Desmond meet her when he was time traveling after he used the fail safe key.

Quick question why did Desmond have the memory of him and Daniel meeting 3 years after they got off the island. It seemed like Daniel talked Desmond the day of moving the island, so why didn't Desmond have the memory right after they got off the island?

Well, that conversation took place some unspecified time during the three years Desmond was pushing the button prior to the crash; and with all the weirdness about the past not being able to be changed, and Desmond being "special" and the rules not applying (maybe because of turning the key?), and... ahhh, Christ, I don't know.

Looks like someone has already asked the question

The question that bothered me most, or gave me the biggest headache, in the season premiere had to do with Faraday knocking on the door of the hatch. Desmond answers the door and they talk. How come Desmond doesn’t remember that encounter the whole time? How come he doesn’t recall that encounter at the hatch door with Faraday from the time it happened up to and including when we see him in the season premiere, which is years later? Why wasn’t that incident a memory for him?

Lindelof: A) That’s a very good question to be asking, and certainly not one that we ignore. B) Listen carefully what Faraday is saying to Desmond, in terms of why he believes this information he’s telling Desmond is going to transfer.

Finally, something happened to Desmond way back at the end of the second season of the show, something incredibly significant. Which imbues him with a certain power, for lack of a better word, that nobody else on the show has, and that was demonstrated regularly throughout Season 3, in terms of what happened to him at the end of Season 2. This makes him a bit of a wild card.

What we would advise you, and the fans whose heads are hurting, is to say, if you apply common sense rules to Desmond’s memory and cognition as it moves through the show, you will drive yourself crazy. But if you fundamentally accept that his consciousness can bop around in time, and where it lands is more an aggregate of destiny rather than logic, you will be able to sleep a lot better.

Plus, does anybody else think Charlotte has a huge face.

Sheesh, will they ever have attractive regularly appearing women on the show? So many women and nobody to really enjoy looking at!

Desmond also met Daniel when he was time traveling after using the fail safe key.

I've forgotten who Ms. Hawkings was during that episode.

Not at all. I know many guys are happy in this regard but for me, the show mostly seems to pick the ones that aren't my type. To my tastes, Kate is decent looking but fairly average, Juliet would be very good but the way she always looks unhappy and a bit smug is turnoff, Sun just isn't my style, Charlotte could be very good but has an ugly face. Claire is, sadly, blonde, I actually thought she looked great in the brunette scenes.

The first two episodes of season 5 sucked.

I think that "It points north" was an even better line. It has that layer of irony at how Locke never expects anything at all to be simple.

Another interesting bit of Island history that just set in for me...

The wheel & ice chamber that moves the island pre-dates Dharma; I had thought it was a part of their experiments. I wonder if it even pre-dates the Others/Hostiles.
