I've heard the "he didn't want to cause a panic" argument before, but it's not like anyone suggested he jump up and scream "DEATH! DEATH HAS COME FOR US PALE RIDER HAVE MERCY AAAAAAAH!" He could have simply put the stupid book aside and said, "I'm sorry, but something very, very important has come up that I need to attend to right away."

Optics are why Giuliani was praised and why Bush was lambasted in the media for reading to the children. Optics are very important in politics.
A good leader is good at managing the optics of a situation, too. It keeps peoples' faith in him."The issue is there are still many people out there that use religion as a crutch for bigotry and hate. Like Ben."

And if he had been reading to older kids I'd agree, but for young kids who really wouldn't understand, a few extra minutes didn't change anything, except to provide fodder for arguments into the next decade. In the grand scheme of things, it's really trivial. It's almost as if all his overconfident, absolutist assertions were spoonfed to him by a trusted website or subreddit. Sheeple

Is that some sort of new business-management or workplace jargon for "appearances?" If so, it's pretty damned silly IMO. Do they call public-speaking skills "excellent acoustics?"

For those who aspire to live in a high cost, high tax, big government place, our nation and the world offers plenty of options. Vermont, Canada and Venezuela all offer you the opportunity to live in the socialist, big government paradise you long for. –Senator Rubio

If he really, really loved the adult in question he might try to emotionally manipulate him into staying, but panic? Nuh-uh.

Of course the press was going to look at the negatives. That's what they do. People that claim it was bad because the press said so................ I prefer to form my own opinions.

Seriously though, "optics" is used all the time in my business...I've also seen it frequently used in technology blogs/business sites.

So Oerdin and Asher, what is this dire information Bush went without for 30 minutes. We are still waiting."The DPRK is still in a state of war with the U.S. It's called a black out." - Che explaining why orbital nightime pictures of NK show few lights. Seriously.

To ask this question of yours once is immensely stupid, to ask it repeatedly after people have rationally explained to you why it's an irrelevant question is even more so.
You talked about being a good leader. You even went so far as to call it "Leadership 101". I've enumerated why it is not an example of good leadersihp. A passive leader (or even just the perception of a passive leader) is not a good thing. People want to know that in a time of crisis, the leader is working. They need to know he is asking the right people the right question, they need to know that he's gathering as much information as possible to form decisions, they need to know he is involved. What Bush did was create the perception of somebody who didn't know what to do, and was waiting for somebody to do something for him. The fact that this perception even existed for a significant number of people was a failure in leadership.
He needed to be doing whatever he could to be informed about as much as possible, as fast as possible. A good leader is an informed leader. It's nonsensical to state there was nothing to be learned while he sat in that room with the cameras on him."The issue is there are still many people out there that use religion as a crutch for bigotry and hate. Like Ben."
