  • "President Bush is in a state of grace"

So, I just spent my day in a seminar in which the representative White House official present (who shall remain unnamed) explained Bush's approach to foreign policy via the direct quote (and it is a direct quote) in the thread title.

I wish I were making that up, but I'm not.

Honest to God, the 7 days remaining of this presidential freak show is still 7 days too many.

(As an aside: does anyone know if, theologically, a Protestant can even determine whether he himself is in a state of grace? A Catholic can, but I just don't know about Protestants.)

How do Catholics do it? Do they have a 'grace-o-meter' or is there a questionnaire they have to answer?

Bush also said yesterday that America still has a large 'moral authority'.

Right, with Iraqi dead from 100k up to a million, Guantanamo, Abu Ghraib, the renditions and countless other offenses I'd say he's delusional. He's completely ignorant of reality and he fails to realize what pretty much everyone in the world thinks about him and the US in general.

Does he even know what moral authority is??

My understanding -- and I claim no expertise -- is that Catholics enter a state of grace after they undergo the sacrament of confession (confession + penance). So, a Catholic who has confessed, performed penance, and not yet sinned again could feel assured that s/he is in a state of grace. I don't know how it works for Protestants -- though we know God talks to Bush, so maybe he just gets regular updates or something.

Went to the library with my brother and his wife today, to drop off some books and DVDs. While we were there, my brother (who somewhere in the past ten years metamorphosed simultaneously into a Buddhist and neanderthal conservative, don't ask me how that works) picked up Ann Coulter's "Godless." I was driving. He read passages from it aloud all the frigging way home. The illogic of the trolls made me want to strangle something. And I'd avoided being exposed directly to Coulter all this time...shame.

Also, Bush sucks, yadda yadda, nothing we didn't all know already.

Isn't Bush a protestant? Or is he becoming a catholic like Florida Bush and young mexican Bush?

How long until the Bush-bashers STFU? I'm serious. The whiney-ass rhetoric is way old.

I'll shut up when his Bible-thumping flunkies stop wasting my time by holding me hostage in a meeting where they're apologizing for his disastrous foreign policy by discussing how wonderful the state of his soul is.

I voted for Clinton twice. By options, I was forced to vote that way. When he goes away, which in 8 years he hasn't, I'll stop. You cry-babies won't even let Bush leave.
BTW, all that I've said about Clinton was correct. He did nothing, except NAFTA, which sucks, and Monica, ditto.
