Though, rum isn't bacardi etc - there is much more - my sisters husband (isn't there a shorter term ?) has started to dig into the subject and I expect to learn more from his surveys

You are out of your mind. There is far, far less difference in flavour in most liquors than there is in whiskey. That's because other liquors just have far, far less flavour than whiskey. The only exception I can think of is tequila (which I am not fond of)

BS, to say it mildly. While it's quite true that whiskey has a very broad specter of flavors, the same goes for several other liquors such as cognac and rum.

Many of those comes in cheap and very distateful versions, but there are also those that you can't forget.

I do. I got a Glencairn whisky glass at a whisky show a few months back. I also have some nice Glenmorangie-branded tumblers which are okay, depending on the mood (I usually break them out when people are over).

In case you have a reading disability, wich I assume you have, I have never claimed that rums has the same taste spectrum of whiskeys. Just that it is an interesting area.

Just because it's the greatest city in the world doesn't mean it's the most cosmopolitan. For instance, if there were loads of Danes infesting our streets it would probably make us more cosmopolitan, but far less great.
