McNamara, defense chief during Vietnam War, dies

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Robert S. McNamara, the cerebral secretary of defense who was vilified for prosecuting America's most controversial war and then devoted himself to helping the world's poorest nations, died Monday. He was 93.

McNamara died at 5:30 a.m. at his home, his wife Diana told The Associated Press. She said he had been in failing health for some time.

                      • Here's one we missed a couple weeks ago...
[June 14] Bob Bogle, a founding member of the Ventures, the long-running guitar band whose jaunty 1960 hit “Walk — Don’t Run” became an early standard of instrumental rock ’n’ roll and taught generations of guitarists how to make their solos sparkle, died on Sunday in Vancouver, Wash., where he lived. He was 75.

The cause was non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, Fiona Taylor, the Ventures’ manager, said.

                        • Hmm....just looking over the thread, I don't think I have been awarded points for Maurice Jarre:

He was best-known for his lush Academy Award-winning scores for David Lean's Lawrence of Arabia, Doctor Zhivago and A Passage to India

                          If I have, my apologies
