For those who aspire to live in a high cost, high tax, big government place, our nation and the world offers plenty of options. Vermont, Canada and Venezuela all offer you the opportunity to live in the socialist, big government paradise you long for. –Senator Rubio

It wasn't actively bad, just highly disappointing after Origins. The reused environments, the sudden nonsensical plot turns, some of the companions were actively terrible (I mean, really, an emo JRPG refugee?)... I liked the more self-contained story and more focused themes, but man, it sure as **** could have used an extra year or two in development, you know?
But, yes, more Morrigan, please and thank you.
(The good news is the best part of DA2--Varric--is back in DAI.)

How much does the plot of DA3 follow DA2? It sounds like it sorta goes off and does its own thing rather like how DA2 honestly had very little to do with DA1. I'm starting to wonder if they are ever going to actually tie Hawke and The Warden together somehow.
And yes, many of the companions were ****ing awful. The emo elf dude with tattoos sucked and I actually avoided him as much as possible. She may have been The Fanservice Character but Isabela was pretty one-note and boring, IMO. Same with Aveline. Don't even get me started on the Gay Warden. God I hate him.
Merrill and Varric were fantastic, though.
The biggest problem I had was that we didn't really learn anything about the world of Dragon Age in DA2. I don't really play these games for the characters as much as the fantasy world.

It follows the conclusion of DA2 only in so far that **** has reached maximum realness between the mages and the templars, and the events of DA:I flow directly from that.
Any further discussion of your post either necessitates spoilers on my part, or I remain ignorant of, as I am nowhere near the end of the game as of yet.

It is. Leliana's appearance is based on the adult model Alexandra "Alleykatze" Stein.
