By the way, when you say "my company", do you mean your company or is it actually a company you work for?
It's common to refer to the company where you work as "my company".

They just need to run this batch conversion once a night or w/e, right? So you build a tiny standalone program that links to the conversion library and just GPL that, leaving the rest of your codebase fine.

This is a massive headache and asking for months of delays while the government lawyers look over the proposal. Not feasible.

The state government we're dealing with has a policy against using open source software unless it is thoroughly vetted by lawyers and they know they're not going to get into any issues with the licenses.

Not to mention the technical complications. These word docs are saved in bytestreams in a SQL Server (it's a Sharepoint system), which means to use the command line we'd also need to dump the files to disk temporarily. Not impossible, just not ideal.

In any case, we're pushing to use Aspose.Word. In under 5 minutes I've got a proof of concept working that will take any DOC, DOCX, RTF, HTML, WordML file and spit out PDF, ODF, OOXML, HTML, or XML output. Simple in and out.

          I know that.
However, I make a point of not calling the bank I work for "my bank". Or even "our bank".

It's just hard to discuss the matter with someone who cannot grasp the fundamentals.

Asher, is there a free online utility for converting old WPD files (mid-late 90s Word Perfect) to MS Word? My PC doesn't have the full MS Word, so it won't auto convert them.

Invoices for your billable hours can be sent to my, uh, P.O. Box... 1 ... in Portland, OR...

I'd doubt it, it's included in Word...

Asher is spot on about GPL for business use. Fine if you are just using the software, but if you are building applications on it, you can't use it.
