If you don't like it. Put money and your own time into doing your own site.

If you're willing to be civil you can try posting it in the site feedback forum where this type of thing belongs. Venting there will waste everyone's time. But then I'm sure that wouldn't bother you.

Why would you be using ext2 anyway? Mind you, even ext2 supports 16GB max file size, but numerous applications fail to recognize the fact that it does. With ext3, I have never had a problem with >2GB files.

Uhhh... he wasn't talking about Poly

I've opened the thread again, and deleted your other thread...

BUT... keep it civil no matter what you are complaining about

                Thanks for reopening this.

                Not ext2 or ext3. NFS

Must be an old version because the latest ones support larger files.

And I have no control over what filesystem my department's network uses. Given how difficult it is to get them to fix even minor issues I'm sure they would just laugh at me if I suggested they do a complete system reformat.

Civil? Is linus torvalds stalking these boards? Will he be saddened at my righteous anger against all administrators who continue to run legacy filesystems despite the very real problems they cause users (especially in an academic context)?

To be honest, we had this same problem. We kick out files that are smaller and put them together instead of doing longer files.

                      Yes... Civil

It is OK to whine like a stuck pig, but if your want to rant like a drunken sailor (HI GP) there are other places that appreciate it more than we do

It's easy enough rant without using a hundred stars.

Ouch, yeah, sounds like you're screwed then The latest NFS versions do support large files, though I've heard about some issues with that too, but the older ones definitely do not.

You'll have to convince the IT dept eventually I guess, can't stay forever without large file support! Sadly, there's no non-destructive process to update NFS2 to NFS3, either.

Hey, I don't deliberately circumvent the autocensor like he does. If stars are so offensive you should consider replacing them with ponies or rainbows.
