I don't have to make friends, they exist in real life.
I do read, but I read deeper things than gay romance novels or Harry Potter pulp. I read stuff that would make your head spin.
Both of the above would probably make my head spin, so try with the other stuff.
NB: grammar Nazi, with a reading list/history to match....
(except the Grauniad, which is a great read, but not all there on the spelling/typo front that often)

I have no idea what you are saying.

How about a post detailing your current and recent reading matter that we might be able to discuss, avoiding, wherever possible, all gay pron and Hairy Potters.

It is fantastic as it explains how Canadians are the best hockey players. And specifically, the absurdly high number of elite Canadian hockey players born in January...

None of those make my head spin. They might if I read them, but to find out that you're reading them certainly doesn't. I hope you enjoyed them.
I've read an article in the paper explaining about the bias towards Canadian puckers born earlier in the year, essentially down to the school system picking size over talent and then training them so they have enough talent, but it's the same over here in football (soccer). Size and/or speed > talent for some reason.

No, it actually has to do with cutoff dates and physical maturity.

It's actually an important distinction. It's not that it's "size and/or speed > talent", it's that the bigger kids tend to be faster. And all things being equal, that's an advantage. So they're not necessarily leaving talented kids on the bench in exchange for someone who is bigger, talent is pretty evenly distributed but the size is the advantage that puts them on the top line, thereby getting more icetime and practice and experience.
What he was saying implies they'd rather play a talentless goon without talent versus an undersized kid with talent.

That's what I meant, sorry if it didn't come through clearly. Basically, if you're not big enough by the cut-off date then you're set back a year of training, and that makes all the difference.

In hockey, they still usually get play. But just on the 3rd or 4th lines with lower icetime.
The reason sports like hockey are excessive meritocracies is because there's constant promotion/demotion within the team. A player on the first line will get a lot more quality playtime and attention from the coaches than a player on the fourth line.

Has anyone actually seen a Canadian understanding a metaphor?
Canada itself is a metaphor.
