  • Am I the only one who thinks music videos are incredibly stupid?

I know I'm going against the trend saying this. Seeing as MTV was born during my generation. You were pretty much required to like it less you be branded uncool. And I'm not saying just new ones, even some of the highly regarded old ones are just kind of stupid. Take for instance Sledgehammer. That is a highly regarded video for the time. But to me seems like a bunch of stupid crap on the screen. Modern videos are no better (probably even worse).

I say this as they show music videos at the gym where I work out. And new videos are just as bad as older ones. I just don't get how the images on the screen are supposed to relate to the song. You can say it's artistic expression. But the person who made the videos have nothing to do with the band, so they aren't expressing the bands views. I just don't get it.

I suppose I'm too old to appreciate the "art".

I'm sure you aren't the only one, but I like good music videos. And I think many are good. But there is definitely a lot of crap. But that is true of any medium.
You've just proven signature advertising works!

even bands I like- say Metallica. The videos are just a bunch of stuff that seems to have little to do with the song. Either that, or I'm too stupid to understand what the song is truelly about.

I kind of like the video to One as they show clips from the movie. And it was an interesting movie. Not the type of movie you'd see now days, so worth watching.

I don't have a problem with dumb or weird-looking ones; the only criterion is that the images have some relation to the lyrics, which is unfortunately very rare.

Of course, that's the old music videos. The ones on MTV today (in the rare moments they even play music videos anymore instead of reality crap) are all rap and pop stars just dancing around and lip-synching with some glamorous backdrops. Not a big improvement.
        Unbelievable!

You should be ashamed.. P. Gabriel (Steam, SledgeHammer, Digging in the dirt) are really good videoclip.

Hey don't say that One of Metallica, was a bad videoclip?

          Edit: cross post

Sure, most music videos are crap, but there are some really good ones out there

Go on a grand cross-country adventure to find their lost TV, that's what. Hilarity ensues.
