I'd recommend a background check on the surgeon and ask around to see if you know anyone who has used him, even though its a "routine" surgery.

One of my cases is a gallbladder removal case-they're ugly when they go wrong...

Passing the stone is almost incomprehensibly painful. However, if you felt well enough to leave, that one had passed. Now you need to work with a medical person you trust to determine if this is chronic or more of a one-time thing. There will be more eventually unless the gall bladder goes. However, that gland has a use in your endocrine system and it could be years before the next stone.

As to Grandpa Troll, 46 stones leaves them no choice: bye-bye gall bladder.

Is there anything you could have done to avoid this? Like drink rum and hot choco or something...

This thread has changed my life.

I got my gall bladder removed back in 2003, now I can be sure that is the reason for the chronic diarrhea (the doctors did not tell me anything about it) Although, sincerely, I have always suspected it.

I drink a ton of water and pray that means I will never get a gall stone.

Right out of the blue. Saturday morning my stomach started to ache. I figured it was indigention, so I popped a couple of anti-acids, which did nothing. It kept getting worse, so went into the ER.

1st operation is on Friday morning. That's on the common bile duct. I'm going to push for the gall bladder removal soon thereafter. I'm willing to screw up my Christmas, but not my trip to the Phils.

The box of goodies finally got toted down to LBC today. They guy said (as I suspected) that I had missed the cut off to get it to the Phils by Christmas. The next week there'll be no deliveries. So it should arrive during the 1st week in January.

I went the doctor and they said I might have a kidney stone ~1 year ago. After many tests and various doctors ho-humming over charts they determined that my insurance company had too much money and billed them $3200, of which the insurance graciously passed along $900 to me.

The lesson is: don't go to the doctor unless you have awesome insurance, are fabulously wealthy or are dying.
