    It looks like Palin won't be appointing herself to the Senate after all.

    Because they have finally finished counting all the absentee ballots in Alaska and Ted Stevens lost. On one hand this is good news for Republicans because now they don't have to vote on the record whither to expel Stevens from the Senate for his seven felony convictions (with all the media attention that would bring) but on the other hand they do lose another Senate seat now. This is also a blow to Sarah Palin who was rumored to have wanted to appoint herself to Stevens old seat after the old man was expelled and carted off to prison.

    So long Sarah. You may now fade away to the redneck back water where you belong.

    What seven felony convictions?

    Sorry I'm too lazy to look it up, but I'm not American so not up-to-date.

      Basically a bunch of corruption charges for taking $250,000 in bribes.

      It will be interesting to see if Bush pardons Stevens on his way out the door.

          Stevens was never convicted of taking bribes. Just lying on disclosure forms.

                  He was never charged (in the formal sense) with taking bribes, AFAIK.

                  No legal consequences would have ensued if he'd properly disclosed the gifts (and paid taxes on them).

                    If I recall correctly Stevens claimed the money and gifts were just donations he had forgotten to mention for years. He was found guilty on seven felony counts.
