Yeah its quite good. Didn't get much publicity, that's probably why you missed it. I only happened to see it because the idea of a world where everything is the same is good enough to rent.

Anyway, the "gun-fu" in the final fight scene was utterly ridiculous. That dragged me so far from suspension of disbelief that it immediately turned what was otherwise a "10" movie to a 6 or so.

that's "Gun-Kata" and it is ridiculous.

For anyone who hasn't seen it, this minute is the travesty we're talking about:
Can someone explain to me why it's so hard for at least one of them to just take a few steps backward, in order to extend the arm fully and discharge his weapon? Perhaps I'm just missing something here.
So you watch an over-the-top movie and then complain that one of the final scenes seems implausible? Please... does that fight really make less sense than the one where he beats some six guys (who die when their plexiglass shatters) without firing a shot? Or where he takes down like an entire army? You have to really suspend disbelief from the start...

That can all be easily explained by the ongoing assumption that he has skills, training, and neurological sharpness far beyond that fathomable to any normal human, coupled with sheer incompetence on the part of his enemies. In fact that's the assumption that makes any movie with action scenes halfway watchable. And yet it doesn't apply to fencing with pistols, which nobody - smart or dumb, fast or slow, strong or weak - would ever do.
I think I downloaded this not long after it came out, it's weaker then the original matrix to which is was always compared but still a decent film. As for the gun-kata I liked it, reminded me of the old style Jap martial arts films like Prodigal Son with over the top attacking and blocking at close range.
Learn to overcome the crass demands of flesh and bone, for they warp the matrix through which we perceive the world. Extend your awareness outward, beyond the self of body, to embrace the self of group and the self of humanity. The goals of the group and the greater race are transcendant, and to embrace them is to acheive enlightenment.

Meh, that's not too convincing. Yeah, nobody would ever fence with pistols, smart or dumb. But would any soldiers attack an enemy one or two at a time, while the rest are watching? Would any soldier with a firearm, ever, prefer to get into melee range as opposed to shooting? I don't think that final fight was more ridiculous that the rest. Cleric's superb training and skills can explain his superb performance, they can not explain reckless, tactically unsound and downright idiotic behaviour by his enemies.

Yes, because they are idiotic and reckless with tactically unsound training.
