Hard boiled is room temp water with eggs in, brought to a boil and boiled for 12 minutes. Then ran under cold water for several minutes until no longer cooking internally.

2 minutes less get you a hard-boiled egg that has a soft yolk, 6 minutes less gets you a soft-boiled egg.

I think that opinion in the United States is decidedly different from the rest of the world because we have a free press -- by free, I mean a virgorously presented right wing point of view on the air and available to all.- Ned

Are you referring to a very tiny egg?

I go for 5 minutes with a large egg from when they are added to the water, which is probably nearer 4 once the water is fully reboiling. I suppose I could go from the reboil time for greater accuracy but it usually works out fine.

If I'm a bit hungrier I go for fried, as they need toast to sit on. I tend to eat boiled eggs on their own.

Eggs If I said how many I eat a year I'd have all sorts of health fascists jumping on me.

And if we are matching qualifications I used to cook over 500 eggs a day when I manned the egg grill on breakfast shifts at a Big Boy's restaurant. Although less than 1% of the eggs were ordered soft boiled.
Big Boy's? You mean Bob's Big Boy? I didn't know that chain was still around but I remember it fondly from the 1980's.

          Fried > hard-boiled > soft-boiled.

Of course, if I had the requisite ingredients on hand (some cheese, maybe some peppers and mushrooms too) I'd just as soon make an omelette.

More difficult to cook. I've made eggs benedict a few times. The hollandaise sauce is the hardest part, of course, but even getting nicely poached eggs is a bit difficult.

Wow. I honestly didn't know that chain was still around. It's kind of like a Denny's isn't it? A lunch counter and Denny's quality furniture and food?

In Michigan they are called Elias Brother's and they are alive and well - but I cooked their back in the early 80's.

                    A) The eggs were free to me because I worked in a restaurant and when going thru 500-600 a day 1 egg didn't hurt the restaurant too much either..

                    B) I didn't drink it for it's nutritional value, I drank it because it tasted good.

                    C) I was drinking these long before Rocky showed up.

Each to their own - I myself rarely wake up pining for a raw egg drink.

                          I generally do hardboiled

I should get more eggs, they are an easy (cheap) source of good protien

I don't anymore either. That was 30 years ago.

You can get egg-poaching devices that are very easy to use pretty cheap--maybe even at a Dollar Tree-type store.

But the Hollandaise is a *****, yes. I tried several times but kept having it separate on me due to either too much or too little heat. I made the mistake one time of buying a mix packet (Knorr I think). The horror... horror...

Those don't actually poach the egg (at least the ones I've seen don't; they steam it).
