We're only talking about intent here, and you better believe that some people avoid arguments with KH. There are a lot of people who don't like to be treated like that on the internet. I don't like it either really that much, although I would never put up with it in real life, and it won't affect my behavior on the internet.

      That is the idea.

There are some people you prefer never speak to you. One way to accomplish this is how KH treats you.

Maybe you could express your outrage at the lack of KH's attention elsewhere -- you're getting boring.

Hence the implication in my last post that they're p*ssies, plain and simple. The fact that X is afraid of having his ass handed to him by Y on some silly internet forum says far more about X than it does about Y. X is afraid of "losing" when there is nothing real to lose. It's called being a p*ssy.
          Unbelievable!

Nor do I have any way of knowing which webpages/books are authoritative and which are partisan or ignorant without knowing the basics of the subject they cover. Sort of a Catch-22: you have to know the subject to evaluate a source, but you have to read respectable sources to really know the subject. And it's not just a matter of spotting fallacious argument; two intelligent and honest people can come to radically different conclusions based on the same information.

What do the experts say about this source or that? Depends which expert. Well, what do the majority of them say? Depends which poll you look at. How do you know the poll isn't skewed or misleading? Ask people which pollsters can be trusted. How do you know the people aren't biased hacks themselves? Ask...and it just never ends. It's the horror of the Information Age.

Not necessarily. I'd reckon some old guy who makes such a stupid generalization such as this is the perfect example -- sometimes stupidity overpowers experience.

I'm not expressing my outrage at his behavior, because I'm not outraged. As I said a couple of times already, I'm interested in his behavior.

Putting your insults aside I can guarantee you that everyone becomes a better judge of character with age. The fact that you don't know this speaks volumes about you.

Putting your insulting stupidity aside, you should recognize that saying one can be a better judge of character with age is a very different claim than saying those who are older are better judges of character.

I'll even provide an example for you to comprehend this:
Let's say your "judge of character" skill at age 20 was 2 out of 10.
By age 80 it may be 3 out of 10.

Let's say Bob Saget's judge of character skill at age 20 was 4, and age 80 it was 9 out of 10.

How can anyone on an internet forum possibly be intimidating in any way? It still does not compute for me.

Another thing that he does is make his arguments more technical and confusing than they need to be. A person who is trying to have a respectfull conversation will not do that. That's what Greenspan used to do to Congress in order to intimidate them. Bernanke does it also to a lessor degree.

Sometimes things are complicated. The fact that you can't comprehend them is your fault, not his.

Treat it as a learning experience. If he uses a big, precise word you can google it to learn more.

Perhaps a bad choice of words. He and Asher often post aggressively, making a fool of the other person on top of their rebuttal. I simply think it's not necessary, though it is a useful tactic. By ridiculing the person they attempt to put him in an awkward position.

Though I have to admit it's funny to watch the carnage sometimes. heh.
