Would you prefer if I had said - someone who served within the last 125 years.

That was the scariest video of the year.
A lot of Republicans are not racist, but a lot of racists are Republican.

Yes, but only because it would have more relevance as comment, not because I think the point you are trying to make is changed.

I don't think the time lapse is overly important (not least given statistical expectation of a prime minister from a minority of 5% is every 100 or so years), unless you think that the UK electorate has regressed since then in its permissiveness in choice of leader.
One day Canada will rule the world, and then we'll all be sorry.

Well if you want to get to gut level racism I think electing a black is a lot more different than being chosen by your body as a Jew.

First of all, it's apparent just by looking at someone that they are black not the same with a Jew.

Second, one was chosen by the supposedly racist electorate in general. The other was chosen by the supposed enlightened representatives (if I understand correctly how a Prime Minister is chosen).

Aside from debating those 2 points, if the best example is one case over 125 years ago - I think I made my point.

But to go on a little further - Bush appointed 2 blacks to very high positions, we've have and have had blacks on the Supreme Court. Lots of Senators, and Representatives. I could go on and on.

I always found it a cheap shot that "Americans are racist" when Europe, Africa and Asia's history in my opinion is far worse.

But back to the point, this should make it a lot clearer that America IS NOT a racist country. But, it is a country of 300,000,000 million people, a few of whom are racist..

They aren't a threat unless someone comes up with a slogan as equally vapid as "Yes we can" to spur them into action.

Yeah. I'm not advocating the US is more racist than Europe. A good (or Godwin) counter is that the US never elected Hitler.

I was just discussing the particular point raised.

I don't think commenting on the US having more high level positions filled by minorities is particular revealing of itself, given that there are more minorities in the US as a percentage of population. Until the last 50 years there were almost no non-white minorities in the UK, and even now they represent about 5-8% of the population depending on measure. In the US it's closer to 25-35% depending on measure.

I wonder how many Obama supporters think that's original?
