It looks like a picture from an electron microscope, not in false colour, so using a heavy metal stain. Transmission electron microscope...so that object could be something in the region of 1nm and larger, so suggests that it is a bacterium, or part of a eukaryotic cell if it is from a TEM. I don't think that is a flagellum, so I doubt it is a bacterium, but I can't think of a part of a cell that looks like that, so I reckon I'm on the wrong track entirely.You just wasted six ... no, seven ... seconds of your life reading this sentence.
