I devoured Sphere while visiting Philly as a kid. My dad had to tell me to cool it when I was reading while crossing some busy street.

The movie was a disappointment. Even with Samuel L.
    John Brown did nothing wrong.

      Really loved his work...
Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent. Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent. Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil? Is he neither able nor willing?
Then why call him God? - Epicurus

        That's a shame

I actually finished reading Next earlier this week. Not being familiar with any recent works by Crichton, I enjoyed it greatly.

If only there was some way to bring him back to life....
Today, you are the waves of the Pacific, pushing ever eastward. You are the sequoias rising from the Sierra Nevada, defiant and enduring.

Here's another vote for Sphere. One of his best. Also Rising Sun. The global-warming denial with graphs and charts every two pages, not so much.

            RIP

I liked his books even when he started to go a bit neo con,
Space is big. You just won't believe how vastly, hugely, mind- bogglingly big it is. I mean, you may think it's a long way down the road to the chemist's, but that's just peanuts to space.

Neo-conservatism doesn't have anything to do with environmental issues. Now unless the man wrote books dealing with foreign policy issues that I'm unaware of, I don't think you have any real clue what the word means.

Neo cons orignally may have started out as a foreign policy group however the same people who think that invading Iraq was the best idea ever also tend to be those who think global warming has nothing to do with man. However in the spirit of compromise Ill chage it to right wing nut job, is that better.

The book airframe was in part about foregin policy, it was all about dodgy foreigners and their undercutting the poor old US of A

Eh, debatable. It's been a while, but I read it as being primarily a criticism of media sensationalism and low standards of accountability among the press, along with an insight into the aeronautics industry. Sure, the foreign consortium fights dirty, but foreigners have been sabotaging good 'murican companies in Crichtonland since Congo in 1980 or thereabouts. It was the major theme of Rising Sun (c. 1992).
